Wembanyama leads Spurs past Thunder 111-103 to set Knicks rematch
The San Antonio Spurs beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 111-103 on Saturday to win the Western Conference and advance to the NBA Finals, the teams said. The series-clinching victory sets up a rematch of the 1999 NBA Finals against the New York Knicks, according to NBA records.
Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 22 points and seven rebounds, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored a team-high 35 for Oklahoma City, NBA statistics show. Saturday’s Game 7 was the 160th winner-take-all game in league history and the fifth such game this season, the NBA said.
The Knicks swept the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals to reach the NBA Finals for the first time in 27 years, the NBA said. New York trailed Atlanta 2-1 in the first round after consecutive one-point losses in Games 2 and 3 but has won 11 straight playoff games since, according to Knicks and NBA records.
The matchup revives a Finals pairing from 1999, when the Spurs beat the Knicks in five games, NBA history shows. Entering Saturday, San Antonio had not reached the NBA Finals since winning the 2014 title over Miami, the Spurs said.
Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals is scheduled to tip Wednesday in San Antonio, the league said. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
