Meteorologists say a post-frontal stratus deck was responsible for the recent overcast conditions. Stratus clouds form a low, uniform layer that produces widespread gray skies, observers said.

A vehicle fire has closed all eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 before Exit 19 in Hinds County, the Mississippi Department of Transportation said. MDOT’s traffic map urged motorists to expect delays and seek alternate routes.

Officials said one lane in each direction of State Route 26 between Fairley O’Neal Road/Vardaman Graves Road and Ely Cooper Road reopened Aug. 3 after a slide, but the road may close again for repairs.

Ronnie L. Brown Jr., 33, of Amory, was arrested July 30 and charged with aggravated domestic violence and felony child abuse, the Tupelo Police Department said. Police say the alleged assault occurred June 27 at a Longhorn Steakhouse and the victim was contacted at North Mississippi Medical Center.

Tupelo police arrested 18-year-old Ivyana Jones after a vehicle chase and ramming incident in a Walmart Neighborhood Market parking lot on July 28, the department said. A judge set her bond at $5,000 and the case will go to the Lee County grand jury.
