Tippah County sports roundup, Sept. 11: Pine Grove wins five-set battle; Toppers sweep soccer openers
Pine Grove outlasted Falkner in five sets Thursday, while Ripley and Walnut added volleyball sweeps and Blue Mountain Christian’s soccer teams opened conference play with victories.

Pine Grove takes county volleyball rematch
Pine Grove beat Falkner 3–2, winning the deciding set 17–15 to improve to 13–9 overall and 5–1 in district play. Falkner slipped to 4–11 and 2–2. The Panthers had lost a fifth set by that same score at Wheeler two nights earlier.
Ripley swept Clarksdale 25–7, 25–11, 25–4, reaching 10–10 overall and 4–0 in district play. Walnut’s 3–0 win over Hamilton lifted the Wildcats to 17–2 overall and 3–0 in district play.
Walnut’s next listed tournament opponents Saturday are Olive Branch, Pine Grove and New Albany. Ripley visits Kossuth at 6 p.m. Monday. Read the full volleyball report.
Blue Mountain Christian opens SSAC play with two wins
Daniella Nieto scored three goals and added an assist as the Blue Mountain Christian women defeated Andrew College 8–0 Thursday for their first victory of the season. The Toppers outshot Andrew 23–1 and improved to 1–4 overall and 1–0 in the Southern States Athletic Conference. Read the women’s soccer recap.
The men earned a 2–1 victory over Andrew behind goals from Alfonso Vasquez and Nicholas Vieira. After Andrew tied the match in the 62nd minute, Vieira scored the winner in the 69th off a pass from Mateus Furio. Blue Mountain Christian moved to 3–1–1 overall and 1–0 in conference play. Three football teams head on the road Friday
Ripley faces Lewisburg, Falkner travels to Bruce and Walnut visits Holly Springs Friday night. All three games are listed for 7 p.m. in TippahSports.com’s Sept. 11 schedule.
Falkner enters 1–1 after a 40–0 win over Middleton and a 41–0 loss at Alcorn Central. Unbeaten Bruce has scored 75 points in two games, with quarterback Joshua Long accounting for 561 combined passing and rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
