Tippah County roundup, Sept. 11: New Highway 2 section opens as bypass project advances

A newly opened section of State Route 2 is carrying local traffic in Tippah County, marking a step toward the larger State Route 15 bypass planned between Blue Mountain and Ripley.

The road project is the focus of today’s Tippah County roundup. One article mentioning Ripley or Tippah County was published on Tippah News during the 24 hours ending at 4:30 p.m. Central on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026.

New road includes two bridges

The Mississippi Department of Transportation said the 1.5-mile, two-lane alignment opened to traffic Sept. 8. It includes two new bridges and carries local traffic to State Route 368 and Tippah County Road 700.

According to MDOT, the alignment will eventually connect the existing State Route 15 at Blue Mountain to the new State Route 15 bypass. The opening of this section does not mean the full bypass is complete.

MDOT District 1 Engineer Matt Dunn described the connection as a first step toward a four-lane bypass intended to accommodate increased traffic, reduce congestion and support regional economic growth.
