A juvenile was shot Sunday night on North Spring Street and taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, the Tupelo Police Department said. Detectives have identified a person of interest and continue to investigate.

The Tupelo Police Department said Officers Joe Willard and Barrett Walls graduated Friday from the North Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Center and will begin the department’s Field Training Program.

The National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee, said prolonged hot and humid conditions this week will push heat indices above 105 degrees each day and that an Extreme Heat Watch remains in effect amid uncertainty about midweek showers.

A report from a state office found 75% of Mississippi teachers began last school year without access to classroom supply funds. The Mississippi Department of Education said it will make EEF funds available to teachers on July 15, 2026.
