The Mississippi Department of Transportation warned that Tropical Storm Arthur could bring several inches of rain and flash flooding and urged motorists to check its traffic app and avoid flooded roads, the agency said.

The measure, championed by State Auditor Shad White, takes effect July 1, and White’s office said taxpayers bear more than $100 million a year in costs tied to illegal immigration.

Daniel Gonzalez was arrested June 12 and charged with burglary of a commercial building and motor vehicle theft after police said a suspect broke into Kellex Seating and stole a company vehicle on June 8.

Rodney W. McDowell, 25, of Tupelo, was arrested and charged with burglary of a vehicle after officers found him inside a car at Lee Motors, police said. A judge ordered him held on $20,000 bond.
