Temperatures that are cooler than last week are expected to warm, with highs rising above average and heat indices possibly reaching the triple digits by the end of next weekend, forecasters say.

Ripley Main Street posted photos of a Fourth of July fireworks show hosted by First Baptist Church Ripley and credited the images to Lolly Lins Photography, the group said.

FEMA said Individual Assistance is available to residents of Franklin, Lamar, Lawrence, Lincoln and Wilkinson counties affected by the May 6-7 severe storms. Applications are open online, by phone or through the FEMA app.

Northeast Mississippi Community College said all adult education classes will be closed during July for staff professional development. The college said offices will remain open to assist current and prospective students ahead of the 2026-27 academic year.

Expect afternoon highs in the 90s through Wednesday, with heat index values between 90 and 100 degrees. Hotter weather returns later in the week.

A dense fog advisory warned that visibility could drop to a quarter mile or less through 9 a.m. today in parts of west Tennessee and north Mississippi. Commuters were urged to allow extra travel time and use caution.

The National Weather Service in Memphis issued a heat advisory through 8 p.m. and warned of a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms south of Interstate 40 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation said in a social media post that motorists should stay in the right lane unless passing, following Fourth of July celebrations and the conclusion of its Star-Spangled Sign event.
