Mississippi nonfarm employment reaches record 1,196,200 in July, governor’s office says
Mississippi’s total nonfarm employment reached a record 1,196,200 jobs in July, Gov. Tate Reeves announced, according to the governor’s office.
“There’s been no shortage of record-breaking economic news for Mississippi over the last six-plus years,” Reeves said in a statement, thanking residents and economic development efforts for what he called sustained momentum.
The governor’s office said that since Reeves took office more than $85 billion in new private-sector investment has been announced, the six largest economic development projects in state history have been finalized, and thousands of higher-paying jobs have been created across Mississippi.
The office also said Mississippi ranks second in the nation for growth in job openings since 2020, with hiring demand up nearly 20%, compared with a U.S. state average decline of minus 9.6%.
The governor’s release said the state has recorded all-time low unemployment rates multiple times during Reeves’ term and has had the second-fastest-growing gross domestic product, second-highest household income growth and the fourth-fastest-growing per capita income in the nation. The announcement was released by the Office of Gov. Tate Reeves.
