The Mississippi Highway Patrol said its holiday travel period begins tonight at midnight and continues through midnight Sunday.
The agency urged motorists to buckle up, drive sober and stay alert, the patrol said.
The patrol told residents to make safety a priority wherever they are celebrating during the Independence Day weekend.
The patrol said it hopes the public enjoys a safe and happy Independence Day weekend and included the hashtags #Mississippi, #4thofJuly and #drivesafe in its message.
