Mississippi under Level 3 heat risk; heat indices could reach 115 degrees
A statewide heat alert says all of Mississippi is under a Level 3 — Significant Heat Risk, with high temperatures in the upper 90s to low 100s and heat indices reaching 110 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit, the alert said.
The alert warned that heat stroke becomes increasingly likely with prolonged outdoor activity and urged residents to take precautions.
It advised people to hydrate throughout the day, take frequent breaks from the heat, recognize the signs of heat illness and never leave people or pets in vehicles, the alert said.
The alert also recommended limiting strenuous outdoor activity and spending time in air-conditioned or shaded areas when possible, and urged residents to stay informed and take steps to stay cool.
