Tupelo police captain graduates from FBI National Academy
The Tupelo Police Department said Capt. Beth Smith graduated from the FBI National Academy Session 298.
The department said Smith began her career with the Tupelo Police Department in 2003 as a patrol officer. She served seven years in patrol, including Operation Safe Summer bike patrol, spent four years as a detective and transferred to narcotics in 2014. The department said she now serves as commander of the North Mississippi Narcotics Unit.
The department said Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and is pursuing a master’s degree. It said she has completed the Mississippi Certified Investigators Program, Mississippi Command College and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Command College.
According to the FBI, the National Academy is a 10-week residential program in Quantico, Virginia, for senior law enforcement leaders. The FBI said officers selected by their agencies complete graduate-level coursework, physical fitness training and collaborate with law enforcement professionals from around the world to strengthen leadership and improve public safety.
The Tupelo Police Department said it is proud of Smith and looks forward to the knowledge and experience she brings back to the department and the community it serves.
