Idaho Democrat Pickens wins primary, will face Gov. Brad Little
Terri Pickens won the Democratic nomination for governor Tuesday and will face Gov. Brad Little in November, The Associated Press reported.
Pickens is a private-practice attorney and small-business owner, The Associated Press reported. She previously was the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor in 2022, when she lost to Republican Scott Bedke by 34 points, the AP said.
Little won the GOP primary and is seeking a third term. The nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates his re-election bid as “Solid Republican,” and The Associated Press reported that he has the endorsement of former President Donald Trump. Idaho has not elected a Democratic governor in 36 years, the AP noted.
Little, a rancher who served in the state Senate and as lieutenant governor, has emphasized deregulation, increased public education funding and tax relief in his campaign, The Associated Press reported. He defeated a crowded field of GOP challengers, including former police officer Mark Fitzpatrick. Former Idaho Supreme Court Justice John Stegner has launched an independent bid, and Little recently signed a law restricting transgender people from using bathrooms that do not correspond with their biological sex that applies to private businesses as well as public property, the AP said.
