A social media post using the hashtags #MShwys and #DriveSmartMS urged drivers to ‘Use Your Blinkers’ and to signal lane changes instead of relying on gestures. The post used playful language and a phonetic phrase to make its point.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation warned drivers to verify their vehicle height and not rely solely on GPS, saying low-clearance bridge collisions can damage vehicles and infrastructure and endanger emergency responders.

Marcus Terrell Allen, 42, of Houlka, was taken into custody Aug. 2, 2026, and charged with attempted aggravated domestic violence and attempted sexual battery, the Tupelo Police Department said. He was ordered held without bond after a municipal court appearance, the department said.

Forecasters say heat will remain the main story in the Mid-South, with some locations possibly seeing their hottest day of the next seven days today. Increasing humidity by the weekend could push heat indices above 105 into early next week.

The National Weather Service in Memphis says humidity will rise into the weekend and has issued a Heat Advisory for the Mississippi Delta for tomorrow. The agency warned additional advisories could follow over the next seven days.

The weather service said its radar is fully operational after technicians recalibrated the system, allowing users to resume tracking weather.

Forecasters say summerlike heat will return to the Mid-South, with temperatures climbing into the low to mid-90s through early next week and rising humidity making conditions uncomfortable.
