Northeast Mississippi Community College said it wrapped its 2026 orientation season after welcoming new students and helping them take next steps.

Thirty years after leaving high school, Shavon McWilliams returned to class to earn a high school equivalency diploma through Northeast Mississippi Community College and went on to graduate and pursue a bachelor’s degree, the college said.

Northeast reported that 81.3% of its students achieved a grade of C or higher, crediting support, opportunities and resources for the results.

Northeast said 60 students are gaining real-world work experience with local industry partners through its Tiger Apprenticeship Program while completing career and technical education.

Northeast Mississippi Community College said its Financial Aid team is available in person, by phone and by email to help current and prospective students understand financial aid options.

Northeast said it will accept applications for its Foundation scholarships from Nov. 1, 2026, through March 15, 2027. Institutional scholarships remain open until the start of the fall 2026 semester.

Northeast Mississippi Community College said it hosted Northeast 4-H counties on campus for Project Achievement Day to encourage college interest among young people. The college thanked students, agents, volunteers and parents for making the event a success.

Northeast President Dr. Ricky G. Ford told the TigerTalk podcast that students should not view community college as a ‘second choice’ and outlined what attendees can expect academically and socially at Northeast, Ford said.

Nellie Kate Johnson from Rienzi earned fifth place at the FBLA National Leadership Conference in the Digital Design & Communication Case Competition.

Northeast Mississippi Community College says its 19-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio lets instructors know students by name and provide individual guidance, according to the college.
