Construction on the I-20/I-55 Freight Corridors Improvement Project, nicknamed ‘The Big Fix,’ is scheduled to start this fall in Hinds and Rankin counties, project officials said. The work will include bridge rehabilitation, road resurfacing and deployment of traffic-management technology.

A campaign post says a character called ‘Highway Mike’ will publicize the I-20/I-55 Freight Corridors Improvement Project, known as the Big Fix. The post says he has provided updates on major central Mississippi projects.

Lamarrion Randle, 22, was arrested Aug. 23 on a felony warrant accusing him of entering an ex-partner’s Tupelo home and assaulting and choking them on April 17, Tupelo police said. A judge set his bond at $35,000 and the case will go to the Lee County Grand Jury.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said residents affected by Tropical Storm Arthur (DR-4930) and the May 6-7 storms (DR-4922) can still apply for federal disaster assistance. FEMA outlined three ways to apply and MSEMA listed basic eligibility requirements.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said five centers will be open June 18–20 to help residents affected by Tropical Storm Arthur (DR-4930-MS). Applicants can apply in person or through FEMA online, by phone or the FEMA app.

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety said in a social media post that August is National Dog Month and highlighted four K-9 officers — Tank, Crow, Rambo and BoBo. The department said the dogs serve with Capitol Police and are trained in tracking and detecting narcotics, explosives and weapons.

Blue Mountain Christian University said community volunteers and nursing students helped perform 357 required physicals for student-athletes in 90 minutes, an effort the athletic department called one of its most successful.
