North Mississippi teacher, sports broadcaster arrested on charges of child molestation and sexual battery

A prominent north Mississippi sports broadcaster and teacher has been arrested on allegations of child molestation and sexual battery. A warrant for his arrest was issued Friday on two counts of sexual battery and 5 counts of child molestation.

Timothy Braden Bishop was taken in to custody after Judge Thomas Gardner reviewed the case and issued the warrant. The allegations stem from events purported to have happened between December 2017 and October 2018, according to court reports.

Bishop was the sports information director and taught journalism at Tupelo High School.

The Mississippi Scholastic Press Association, of which Bishop was a board member, had the following to say:

Bishop is a former MSPA Adviser of the Year, a longtime board member, and has made a positive impact in the lives of countless young people during his time in the classroom.

However, in light of these charges, our director and the remaining 11 board members have voted unanimously to condemn these actions, remove Mr. Bishop from our board and offer our support in helping the journalism program at Tupelo High School move forward.

Bishop was a former host on the Miss 98 Scoreboard show and was recently nominated as a finalist for the Daily Journal 40 under 40 award.
