Mississippi releases statewide AI framework to guide education and workforce
JACKSON, Miss. — Gov. Tate Reeves announced the release of the Mississippi Statewide AI Framework, a guidance document intended to establish statewide priorities for artificial intelligence education and workforce skills, his office said.
The framework provides a stage-by-stage map of AI skills learners need from K-12 through career leadership, the release said. It emphasizes that AI should strengthen human judgment rather than replace it, Reeves said.
The document was developed by the AI Workforce Readiness Council, a subcommittee of the State Workforce Investment Board, in partnership with AccelerateMS and the Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network, or MAIN, the release said. It is organized around 11 core AI skill domains that include foundational AI understanding, ethical reasoning, cybersecurity awareness and real-world applications across industries such as precision agriculture, coastal resilience, advanced manufacturing and health care.
“Mississippi isn’t just attracting the industries of the future, we’re building them,” Gov. Reeves said. Dr. Courtney Taylor, executive director of AccelerateMS, said the system aims to prepare “every Mississippian — from a student in the Delta to a shipbuilder on the Gulf Coast — to adapt, compete, and succeed in a rapidly changing world.”
Dr. Kollin Napier, director of MAIN and chair of the AI Workforce Readiness Council, said the framework “keeps human judgment at the center of every decision” and offers educators and employers a path to equip learners for an AI-driven economy. The release said the framework is a flexible guide, not a curriculum or mandate, and will be updated as the technology evolves. The governor’s office said the full framework is available online.
