The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency says a Disaster Service Center in Wilkinson County is open to residents affected by the May 6-7 severe storms (DR-4922). Applicants should bring identification, income and insurance information, or apply online or by phone by Aug. 31.

Meteorologists said the upper-level ridge is slowly weakening, offering relief from extreme heat in a few days, but forecasters warned of a marginal risk for severe storms mainly south of a line from Jonesboro to Jackson.

Applications for positions with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety close Aug. 29, the department said, and prospective applicants can apply at dps.ms.gov or contact recruiters for more information.
