The Mississippi Department of Transportation recognized Amber Godfrey, an accountant in its Budget Division in Jackson, for her work overseeing project funding, MDOT said. Godfrey has worked for the department for four years and previously worked in healthcare.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation warned that Tropical Storm Arthur could bring several inches of rain and flash flooding and urged motorists to check its traffic app and avoid flooded roads, the agency said.

The measure, championed by State Auditor Shad White, takes effect July 1, and White’s office said taxpayers bear more than $100 million a year in costs tied to illegal immigration.

Ripley Main Street received the Outstanding Placemaking Project Award, and volunteer Melinda Marsalis earned the Paul Coggin Trailblazer Award, recognizing her leadership and service.

An open mic event for singers, poets, comedians and other performers is scheduled Friday, June 19, at The Cut-Off in downtown Ripley, organizers said.
