Columbus Air Force Base opens gates for Freedom Fest to mark America’s 250th
Thousands attended Freedom Fest at Columbus Air Force Base on the Fourth of July as the base opened to the public for the nation’s 250th birthday, WCBI reported.

The Jackson City Council voted 6-1 to eliminate the Parks and Recreation Department and place its staff under Public Works and Human and Cultural Services to help address an estimated $23 million deficit, city officials said. The move will save about $143,000 in salaries and benefits, officials said.
